William Minchin was the Principal Superintendent of Police & Treasurer of the Police Fund in the colony. He was granted 1,000 acres of of land was named after him and now known as Minchinbury. After the death of William in 1821, the property passed to his only daughter Maria Matilda. In 1838, Maria Matilda and her family were tragically lost at sea, leaving no descendents of William Minchin alive. Which then left the property to government.

Brief History: This heritage listed building was restored and refurbished. It was a former all-girls orphanage & mental institution. In the 19th century its doors had been shut permanently. This was due to the mistreatment of attending students and its patients. Locals still tell the stories to its newer & younger generations of its horrific and traumatic events that took place… how many girls would be dehumanized and humiliated. Okay, so it was one freezing night and we were due for a ghost tour at Manly’s Quarantine station in Oz. So, what went down was nothing much. To be honest, it felt more like a historic tour rather than a ghost tour.. nothing special.
